More than 71,000 people live without stable housing in Slovakia. In Bratislava, there are approximately 4,000 people without a roof over their heads. These numbers show just how alarming the state of homelessness currently is. In Slovakia there are several organizations and activism groups that are working hard to combat this problem, which is becoming even more dangerous and sad in the cold winter months and upcoming festive season. How the current state of this issue is and what are the ways to help the homeless… you are going to hear in the show. We talked to executive director of the civic association Vagus, Alexandra Kárová and Michal Cibiri from nonprofit organization Depaul Slovakia who provide support, outreach, and shelter services to people experiencing homelessness, helping them regain stability and dignity. And last but not least, we also talked to Patrik Krebs, theatre director and activist from Divadlo bez domova, a theatre that works with and helps the homeless and other marginalized groups through art.
