Martin: Victims of the Roma Holocaust to Be Commemorated at the Museum of the Slovak Village

The victims of the Roma Holocaust will be commemorated in the coming days by the Slovak National Museum in Martin with an exhibition at the Museum of the Slovak Village in Jahodnícke háje, according to Milena Kiripolská, cultural and promotional manager of the Slovak National Museum in Martin.

She added that the Slovak National Museum in Martin – Museum of Roma Culture in Slovakia prepared a panel exhibition in 2020 entitled Roma in Slovakia and World War II. Part of the exhibition portrays the difficult fate of Roma in Slovakia during the Slovak National Uprising and after its suppression, when persecution and reprisals against Roma intensified. The museum has prepared a reprise of this section of the exhibition on Roma Holocaust Remembrance Day.

On Saturday, August 2, curator-led tours of the exhibition will take place at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. On other days, the exhibition will be accessible to the public with a guide during the regular opening hours of the SNM in Martin – Museum of the Slovak Village. The exhibition will remain open until August 21.
