Historian, sociologist, university professor, and former Slovak MP Ivan Laluha passed away on Monday (July 21) at the age of 92, his family confirmed.
Laluha was a professor at the University of Economics in Bratislava, a recipient of the Ľudovít Štúr Order (2nd class), and a close associate of Alexander Dubček. During the communist era, he was expelled from the party for supporting reforms and later became active in the dissident movement.
After the 1989 Velvet Revolution, he served in the Czechoslovak Federal Assembly (1990–1992) and the Slovak National Council (1992–1994), where he chaired the foreign affairs committee. He was a key figure in shaping Slovakia’s early parliamentary diplomacy and integration efforts.
