Social peace is under threat as dialogue between trade unions and employers weakens and strikes become more frequent. Union members report being perceived as adversaries and facing targeted layoffs. The gelatin and collagen factory in Liptovský Mikuláš is currently experiencing the longest strike in Slovakia’s history – lasting 14 days so far – due to deteriorating working conditions. Trade unionists are calling on the Ministry of Labor to strengthen their protection, claiming that some employers are deliberately laying them off to eliminate those who defend workers' rights.
