The last day of February is international Rare Disease Day. The aim of the day is to raise awareness among policymakers and the public about rare diseases and their impact on people’s lives. The European Union considers a disease rare if it affects no more than 50 per 100,000 people. However, if we add up the total number of people who suffer from a rare disease, we find that a significant proportion of the total human population is affected. Data from rarediseaseday.org estimates that between 3.5% and 5.9% of the world's population suffers from a rare disease.
On this occasion, Romana Grajcarová spoke with the representatives of the Belasý motýľ organization, the only specific organization in Slovakia that brings together children and adults, along with their families, who are affected by various neuromuscular diseases.
