February 21st marks the 7th anniversary of the brutal murders of journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová. In more than 40 cities around Slovakia, demonstrations to commemorate Jan and Martina are being organized by Mier Ukrajine (Peace for Ukraine) and Za slušné Slovensko (For a decent Slovakia). Memorials are also being organized in cities around the world.
In 2018, the assassinations of investigative journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová in their home rocked the country. Mass protests were held across the country, leading to the resignation of then Interior Minister Robert Kalinak. Then Prime Minister Robert Fico also stepped down in response to the protests.
