On the occasion of V-Day, Slovak women writers have published an open letter calling for a reduction in hateful public expressions against women.
The letter was released on 14 February, a day widely recognized as Valentine's Day but also observed by feminist groups worldwide as V-Day—a global movement against violence toward women and girls, founded by playwright and activist Eve Ensler.
In their letter, Slovak women writers urge public condemnation of all violent and hateful speech by public figures, as well as clear and unequivocal opposition to such rhetoric in solidarity with those targeted. They also call for the promotion and enforcement of measures to protect women from violence and discrimination, along with the proper implementation of existing legislation. Additionally, they ask public officials to foster discussions on violence prevention and raise awareness of the seriousness and dangers of such behaviour in society.
