Number of hotel and guest-house visitors increased

The number of people staying in tourist accommodation in Slovakia rose by 3 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) to 5.9 million in 2024, the Statistics Office reported on Tuesday.

However, Slovak hotels, guest houses and other accommodation facilities still didn't match the record set in the pre-pandemic year of 2019, when the number of guests exceeded 6.4 million. Although last year saw the second highest-ever number of clients, the figure was still 516,000 lower than the record posted in 2019.

More than two thirds of the accommodated tourists (3.8 million) were domestic visitors, while one third (almost 2.2 million) were foreigners. Both figures posted moderate y-o-y growth, with the number of domestic guests coming closer to the record set in 2019.

The most frequently visited regions in 2024 were Bratislava and Zilina regions, visited by over 2.7 million tourists in total. Presov region exceeded the 1-million visitor threshold as well. Bratislava, Trencin, Nitra and Banska Bystrica regions were more than 10 percent behind the records in 2019, while Zilina and Presov regions were behind by 4 percent.
