What has really changed since the fall of the iron curtain in terms of animal rights? This is what animal shelter and animal rights group Sloboda Zvierat ask, following the announcement of a new petition aimed at modernising the country’s animal rights laws.

Mačka SOS, Túlavá Labka, and the Slovak Alliance for Animal Rights (Slovenská aliancia ochrancov zvierat) are behind this latest push for reform. Will it work? Gavin Shoebridge finds out.
