Though the programme of the Slovak cultural summer is packed with various folk festivals, a number of similar events also take place outside the borders of Slovakia.
As their organisers, and more importantly their audience might be keen to see the performances of Slovak folk dances, from time to time, Slovak folk ensembles pack their folk costumes and travel around the world to spread the joy of traditional Slovak folk culture to those who don’t have it on offer every weekend. Therefore we’ll join the Slovak folk ensemble Poleno at its performance at the World Music and Dance festival, which took place in the Japanese city of Hakodate, on Hokkaido Island, which has for seven years been hosting one of Japan’s largest and most international performing arts festivals.
