Blurry beauty of Impressionism

Blurry beauty of Impressionism

With the spring weather in Slovakia being pleasant these days, nature seems to be welcoming people to go out and spend time in it. Also the art movement called impressionism was special, because the artists went out to the wild and tried to catch a glimpse of light in the trees, or on the meadows... which were usually full of red poppies.

For the past few months, the Slovak National Gallery has staged an exhibition called Impresionizmus SK, and as you have probably guessed from its title, it was about the era of Impressionism and its connection to Slovakia. While France got its Monet, Manet, Van Gogh or Renoir, Slovakia got its Medňanský, Skutecký, Schurmann or Szinyei Merse.

Zuzana Botiková has spoken about this art period and how it got visualised on the Slovak art scene with Zuzana Koblišková, from the education department of the Slovak National Gallery.
