Easter is the biggest spring festival in the calendar – primarily as a Christian celebration, but also in the older, pagan yearly cycle. What traditions and symbols were connected to the end of winter and the beginning of the new season with new life blooming from every corner?
Ethnographer Tatiana Bužeková from the Department of Ethnology and Museology from Comenius University in Bratislava will tell us more about such spring rituals which were connected to the celebration of fertility and new life. Paradoxically, the most famous one, the so-called “drowning of Morena” is in a sense connected to the celebration of death.
