“Mafia went global, journalists have to go too”

The year 2018 left a deep scar on the Slovak journalistic scene. This was due to the killing of a young investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fianceé Martina Kušnírová in February 2018. It has long been suspected that Ján Kuciak was shot to be silenced. But the killings had the exact opposite effect. Towards the end of the year, a group of Slovak journalists from various media set up the Ján Kuciak Investigative Centre, aimed at creating a platform for cooperation between Slovak investigative journalists and their colleagues from abroad.
