Summer holidays by the sea have always been a dream of people from a landlocked country, like Slovakia. However, some 30-40 years ago they couldn't choose from the variety of offers one sees in a travel catalogue today. During the socialist regime in Czechoslovakia, it was possible to travel only to so-called socialist- friendly countries, such as Yugoslavia, Romania and Bulgaria. Zuzana Botiková spoke to Mrs Helena Ilcheva, who has been working as a travel guide for Czechs and Slovaks in Bulgaria, about how people used to spend their summer holidays in years gone by.
