Being a street cat is tough. Feral cats regularly die from harsh diseases such as leukaemia, feline HIV, chronic hunger, and being killed by cars. It's a problem which has quickly become critical, according to the animal welfare group and shelter Sloboda Zvierat (Animal Freedom). But help is on the way, at least within Bratislava, with a castration program aimed at safely reducing the numbers of cats on the streets through capture and castration. Gavin Shoebridge spoke to Silvia Čaňová from Sloboda Zvierat to find out how it works, and what residents can do to help.
