Note 1: In Slovak, many nouns referring to professions, roles, titles and nationalities have separate masculine and feminine forms. The feminine form is often created by adding a suffix such as -ka. For example, “študent” (male student) while “študentka” (female student). Similarly, “profesor” (male professor) and“profesorka” (female professor).
Note 2:Slovak often creates related words from the same root. For example, from “študovať” (to study), we get “študent / študentka” (student) and the adjective “študentský” (student-related). The adjectives then change its ending according to gender: “študentský, študentská, študentské”. We also have the noun “štúdium” (study or studies) from which we get another useful adjective: “študijný, študijná, študijné” (related to studies or academic).
