Note 1: In Slovak, the noun “zima” means winter, but it is also very commonly used to express the feeling of cold or chilly weather. This is why Slovaks often say “Je zima.” — literally — It is winter — but meaning — It’s cold. The meaning is clear from context and does not necessarily refer to the season itself.
Note 2: The adjective “ročný / ročná / ročné” is formed from the noun “rok” (year) and means — yearly or annual. Like all Slovak adjectives, it changes its ending to agree with the gender and number of the noun it describes, for example “ročný plán” (annual plan), “ročná dovolenka” (annual holiday), or “ročné obdobia” (seasons of the year).
