Window to the World 7: Nitra-Naperville

In the following part of our Window to the world series, Martina Greňová Šimkovičová from the RSI English section and Marcela Jedináková from Rádio Regina will explore the partnership between ancient city of Nitra in Slovakia and Naperville, USA.

Back in 1992, the Naperville’s Sister Cities Commission developed 31 criteria for measuring a possible partner. There were several subgroups for studying and making recommendations about other cities. In the end, there were three candidates: Opole in Poland, Sombathely in Hungary and Nitra in Slovakia.

Recalling the beginnings of the partnership and its later outcomes are Rosemary Macko Wisnoski, the honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic in Chicago for the state of Illinois and a founding member of the Naperville Sister Cities Commission, Miloš Dovičovič, the then Head of the Office of the City of Nitra, now a member of the municipal parliament, Erik Duchoň, currently the chief of the municipal police in Nitra, Ivan Eľko, General Bishop of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Slovakia and Professor Eva Solárová from the Department of Psychology at Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra.
