Slovak student wins top prize at global science and engineering fair in the U.S.

Slovak high school student Adam Kovalčík has won the top prize at the 2025 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Ohio, USA, for developing a drug that can stop viral gene replication and help control infections.

He received the $100,000 George D. Yancopoulos Innovator Award. Kovalčík qualified through the AMAVET Science and Technology Festival in Slovakia and also earned honors from the American Chemical Society and the Drug, Chemical & Associated Technologies Association.

Another Slovak student, Anna Podmanická, won a special award from the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation and placed fourth in Environmental Engineering.

AMAVET praised the students’ international success, highlighting the importance of continued support for young scientific talent.
