On Tuesday, the first case of measles in Slovakia this year was confirmed by the Public Health Authority (UVZ), informed UVZ spokesperson Dasa Rackova on Tuesday.
The case concerns a 16-month-old child from Bratislava, who hasn't yet been vaccinated against the disease. The disease was imported from abroad. The child's parents and sibling have been vaccinated.
"The Regional Public Health Office based in Bratislava is providing anti-epidemic measures and contacting others who were in the vicinity of people who are confirmed to have the disease. Measles is a highly contagious airborne disease, so we can't rule out the possibility that the number of measles cases may grow," said regional public health officer Eva Fitzova.
