Many birds, bats, and sharks use the earth’s magnetic field to find their way in the ocean. This might sound like common knowledge, but despite decades of research there are still many questions left unanswered on how exactly they can do it. This means that a new research program involving Slovak and New Zealand researchers investigating the magnetic effects on fungi might have a big challenge ahead of them. Gavin Shoebridge speaks to researchers from both countries to find out what’s ahead.
