There are some dirty secrets in Slovakia’s past. One prominent example from days gone by was the dumping of toxic waste into a forest near Bratislava city. For almost half a century, thousands of tonnes of this Gudron toxic waste has been hiding in a pit the hills above the borough of Devínska Nová Ves, leaking into the surrounding soil.
