A trip to Mars can take around 8 months to complete. During that time travelers have to battle food and drink rationing, extreme boredom, and of course dangerous gamma radiation.
And then when they finally land on the Red Planet, how can they grow new food and stay alive? One Slovak researcher has been given the task of trying to find out and is being sent to a virtual mars boot-camp in just a few days, as Gavin Shoebridge discovered.
