A two-day informal meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the European Union ended in Amsterdam on Saturday. The ministers discussed the European Security Strategy, which should be able to respond to the crisis happening close to the EU borders. According to the Slovak foreign affairs minister, Miroslav Lajčák, such "security issues happening in our neighborhood always have an impact on the safety of our own". When meeting with the representatives of the EU candidate countries, the presented stance of Slovakia was the necessity to ensure the protection of the external Schengen borders via the European Border and Coast Guard. Further discussions involved the topic of EU's relations with Iran after the recent agreement on its nuclear program and cooperation with Tehran on regional issues.
