As of February 1st, the mass resignation of protesting nurses has become a reality. According to the data from the nurses' representatives, 602 nurses left hospitals on Monday, 122 more will do so in March. Prime Minister Robert Fico met with representatives of the protesting nurses on Friday; however, as stated by the Chairwoman of the Trade Union Association of Nurses and Midwives Monika Kavecká, after the talks, they have not arrived at a solution to the situation. With regard to the departure of some nurses, the management of the hospital in Prešov asked the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic for cooperation. The Bratislava II District Court ruled on Friday that the Trade Union Association of Nurses and Midwives cannot claim a fine from nurses who have taken back their notices. The nurses, who have been unhappy about their situation for a long time, launched mass resignations in late November, after Parliament approved a bill on their salaries. The law entered into effect as of January notwithstanding President Andrej Kiska's refusal to put his signature to the document - twice.
