Thursday January 28th is the fourth day of the teachers' strike, and the situation remains unchanged. Teachers are not backing down. The government is saying that the demands raised by protesting teachers cannot be accommodated before the March 5th parliamentary election. Vladimir Crmoman from the Slovak Teachers' Initiative claims that the number of teachers in the strike has increased by some 400 people, and so based on their latest figures 11,800 teachers and over 800 schools have signed up for the strike. The Education Ministry claims that the trend of the amount of schools participating in the strike has a tendency to decline. Crmoman stated that they plan a series of events to follow the demonstration in Bratislava on Monday. On Wednesday a few hundred people gathered in Levice (Nitra region) to support the ongoing strike of teachers. A march in Topolčany (Nitra region) was also held on Wednesday and protest rallies are to take place this week also in Košice, Nové Zámky and Banská Bystrica.
