Knowledge-based Society among Slovakia's Danube Strategy Priorities

Slovakia's priorities as the presiding country over the EU Strategy for the Danube Region this year are a knowledge-based society and water protection, reads the plan approved by the Government on Wednesday. When it comes to supporting the development of a knowledge-based society, Slovakia puts special focus on innovation and competitiveness in the Danube Region. It also concentrates on integrated water management with an accent on foreseeable and unforeseeable challenges for the natural environment. "The aforementioned two priority spheres of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region are coordinated with other countries - a knowledge-based society with Serbia and water protection with Hungary," said Vice-premier for Investments Lubomir Vazny, who submitted the document to the Government session. In the second half of 2016, Slovakia will become the first country to hold the presidency in the Danube Strategy and the EU Council at the same time.
