At the end of last year 84,787 foreigners have been officially registered as residing in Slovakia, according to information released by Slovak Police. The number represents a 10.5 percent increase in comparison to the same period of 2014. Most foreigners residing in Slovakia are citizens of the European Union with only about 41 percent of them coming from countries outside the EU. This latest group is dominated primarily by Ukrainian citizens followed by Serbians and Russians. Among EU citizens, Czechs, Hungarians and Romanians occupy the top three positions. 2015 brought the number of British citizens residing in Slovakia up to 1,835, while American citizens rose to 925. At present, there are as many Americans as there are Syrians living in the Slovak Republic (925).
