According to figures from the Slovak Automobile Industry Association (ZAP), Slovaks bought a total of 77,968 new cars in 2015, and Škoda was still the most popular brand, with three Škoda models occupying the top three places in terms of sales. This was reported by the Pravda daily on Thursday. The number of new cars bought grew by 7.93 percent year-on-year, with the most popular model being the third generation Škoda Fabia (5,111 sold), with the Škoda Octavia (4,448 sold) and Škoda Rapid (3,969 sold) following closely behind. Other car models in the top ten in order of sales were the Kia Ce'ed (2,452 sold), the VW Golf (2,346 sold), the Hyundai i30 (2,293 sold), the Suzuki Vitara (1,475 sold), the Hyundai i20 (1,467 sold), the Kia Sportage (1,433 sold) and the Opel Astra (1,366 sold). The most popular types of car were smaller, third-category vehicles. Total sales of this class of vehicle reached 26,362 last year; an increase of 3.37 percent year-on-year.
