Slovakia saw increase in road deaths in 2015

According to statistics from the ministry of interior, 274 people died in over 13,500 car accidents in Slovakia in 2015. Sadly, the number of victims grew by 15, representing a 5 percent increase compared to 2014. However, it is "a favourable number looking at many years before when around 600 people used to die", said Jozef Drahovský, a transportation expert. The largest increase in vehicle-related deaths year-on-year, from 58 to 80, was recorded among pedestrians. "The highest incidences of pedestrians deaths are in places with no sidewalks and insufficient public lighting", added Drahovský. The police suggest that wearing reflective elements on clothes can be a life-saving-factor. Most pedestrian fatalities were in the 51 and 70 year old age bracket.
