Following the New Year's attacks on women in cities across Germany, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico addressed the European Council President, Donald Tusk, and the European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker, with a letter asking them to act more rapidly in the decision to establish a common European Border and Coast Guard. Moreover, Fico said that an extraordinary EU summit will be needed to be convened on the matter. Slovakia shall give for this purpose its whole abroad-operating police unit, Hrad (Castle), which will be ready for deployment anywhere the consistent protection of Schengen borders is needed. Fico's actions are supported also by his Czech counterpart, PM Bohuslav Sobotka. According to Sobotka, the latest events in German cities show how important security and integration solutions are to the migration crisis.
