According to preliminary results, in 2015 Slovakia produced more than one million cars. By this, the automotive industry passed the imaginary boundary set in 2014 by producing more than 970,000 vehicles. The car industry represents a 44% share in Slovak industry, and Slovakia remains a world leader in the number of automobiles per 1000 inhabitants. In 2014 it was 179 cars; in 2015 it had risen to 184 per 1000 people. However, the persistent problem in the Slovak car industry is the unequal distribution of automotive suppliers, where the East lags behind the West of the country.
