Last year (2015) was the second hottest on record in Europe, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) reported on Tuesday. At the same time, the five-year 2011-15 period is the warmest on record. According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) that was cited as the source of this information, the persisting high temperatures are due to a conjunction of global warming and the strong El Nino phenomenon. The effects are also expected to be observed in 2016.
