The European migrant crisis sidelined local happenings and became the main event of 2015 yet there was no reason for this, President Andrej Kiska said in his New Year speech. Engaging people into debates about refugees is natural because we are part of the EU but the crisis has not touched Slovakia so much as to justify concerns about social and security threats, believes the president. The head of state also mentioned the recent terrorist attacks in Paris but reminded that they had not been the first in Europe at all. The president went on to criticise Slovakia's healthcare sector as being "the field with most arbitrariness, chaos in the system, non-transparent interests, cronyism, and disorder". He sees the priority of the next Cabinet to be in education, specifically the improvement of quality at elementary schools.
