The number of people who suffer from diabetes in Slovakia hit a record last year. According to Peter Bubla form the National Centre for Health-related Information figure is the highest since statistics began to be gathered in 1980. "A total of 342,124 people were listed to be in diabetes outpatient care in Slovakia as of the end of 2012. The number went up by 5,500 when compared to 2011," said Bubla.
From the long-term perspective, diabetes has been on the rise in Slovakia, as it has been in other countries. Some 6.3 percent of Slovakia's population suffers from diabetes at the moment which represents an increase of 17.6 percent compared to 2003.
