Thirty-four percent of people worldwide favour a decrease in immigration but, when Europe alone is considered, the ratio jumps to 52 percent. This follows from a survey by Gallup, which was used for a study by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). How the World Views Migration also sheds light on the sentiment in Slovakia. 44 percent of Slovaks queried in the poll advocate a reduction in immigration while 37 percent prefer the current state of affairs. Only four percent of people would like to see more immigration. A total of 183,000 people from 142 countries were included in the survey conducted between 2012-14, which canvassed people's views mainly on whether immigration should be reduced or increased. Statistics of the Slovak Border and Foreigners Police indicate that nearly 80,000 foreigners were residing in Slovakia in June 2015, which accounts for 1.46 percent of the entire population. Nearly 23,000 foreigners were working in Slovakia.
