The foundation stone of a new assembly hall where the Porsche Cayenne will be assembled was laid at the Volkswagen plant in Bratislava on Tuesday. Prime Minister Robert Fico described the €300-million investment as more fuel going into the well-running engine of the Slovak economy. Fico pointed out that car production represents about 45 percent of industrial output in Slovakia. The new assembly hall will cover around 90,000 square metres, enlarging the plant itself to more than two million square metres. Around 400 employees will work per shift. Production is due to begin by the end of 2017. VW Slovakia, with more than 9,900 employees, is one of the largest employers, exporters and investors in the country.
