Parliament changes the Constitution with an anti-terrorist law

At a special session on Thursday MPs passed a change to the constitution that is a part of the governmental so-called anti-terrorist package. The period for detaining people suspected of terrorist acts is now doubled - that is, now it is up to 96 hours. The government explained this and other changes to the constitution by saying that the current timeframe for proof and clarification of cases is not sufficient given the severity of terrorist criminal offences. "We are thus creating better conditions for the fight against the most severe forms of crime," reads the amendment reasoning. The government drafted the anti-terrorist package after the November 2015 attacks in Paris.
