The Assyrian Christian refugees due to be accepted by Slovakia won't be distributed among villages in the Nitra region but the state will take the issue into its own hands instead, stated Prime Minister Robert Fico on Sunday. This comes in reaction to reports that individual villages have raised objections to accepting the refugees. Fico stated that the Assyrian Christians who should come to Slovakia are facing the threat of being killed at home in Iraq. "So, we must find a scheme that won't raise concerns among the Slovak public and at the same time will provide protection to the endangered Assyrian Christians," Fico concluded.
