Slovakia has new commissioners for children and the disabled

Lawyer Zuzana Stavrovská was elected Slovakia's first ever commissioner for the disabled, receiving 72 votes in Parliament on Wednesday. Stavrovská was a nominee of the governing Smer-SD party. On the same day, Parliament elected former Smer Labour minister Viera Tomanová as commissioner for children. The commissioners should safeguard the protection of rights for children and the disabled respectively in courts, state bodies and private companies. Both commissioners should serve on their posts for six years.
