Premier Optimistic Ahead of Climate Change Conference

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico will take part in the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris starting today. The new agreement will replace the Kyoto protocol in 2020, adopted in 1997. The EU ambition is to decrease greenhouse gases by 40 per cent until 2030 compared to the levels recorded in 1990, increase renewable energy sources by 27 per cent and increasing energetic efficiency by 27 percent. Robert Fico finds the offer of the EU very progressive with a possible impact on industry and energy. According to the Slovak Environment Ministry, these goals are ambitious. However, they will have a positive impact in changing the orientation of Slovak economy towards sustainable development and low carbon based technology. Slovakia has decreased the emissions of greenhouse gas by 41%, highly exceeding international commitments.
