The gateway to digitised cultural heritage has become available to the public since Thursday. It comes in the form of the website slovakiana.sk, containing more than one million cultural items in digital form. According to Culture Minister Marek Madaric, Slovakia has now taken the lead in the digitisation of its cultural heritage. There are seven facilities that have already digitised more than four million cultural objects. Marek Madaric claimed that Slovakiana represents a unique system that would generate a number of benefits. Aside from familiarising the public with Slovak culture from various spheres, the project will also positively influence the education process, science, entrepreneurship, tourism, creative industry and international cooperation. Slovakiana will allow people to search, view and download digitised items in HD. A total of €180 million was allocated for the digitisation of Slovakia's cultural heritage, €141 million of which came from European funds.
