Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák, who is on an official visit to Tokyo, conveyed Slovakia's interest in further investments to Japanese companies and business community representatives. "Japan is an important global player in politics and the economy and is an important partner for Slovakia," Lajčák told representatives of more than 20 Japanese companies that do business in Slovakia or plan to invest here. There are more than 40 Japanese companies in Slovakia at the moment, including three that arrived this year. According to Lajčák, Slovakia would welcome Japanese investment in fields such as IT, support for startups, the electronics and chemical industries, but also in innovations and research.
At the end of the first day of his two-day visit to Tokyo, Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák awarded the Golden Apple Bienale of Illustration Bratislava (BIB) 2015 prize to Japanese painter and illustrator Miroco Machiko at the Slovak Embassy in Japan. Japan has regularly participated in this international competition, and on this occasion Lajčák handed a BIB plaque to Yumiko Bando, the chairman of the Japanese Council for Books for Youth, for her part in promoting the contest in Japan.
