Pre-election preparations underway

Political parties, movements and coalitions still have two weeks for drafting lists of candidates for next year's parliamentary elections. A list should not consist of more than 150 candidates. Political subjects must also pay an election deposit of 17,000 Euros. This returns to those that get in elections at least two percent of the vote. The parliamentary elections will take place on March 5, 2016. The election campaign has officially begun on November 12 and will end 48 hours before polling day. Also Slovak citizens living abroad can take part in the elections via mail vote. However, they have to ask for permission to do so by no later than January 15, 2016. The permission to vote from abroad will be given to adult citizens without permanent residence in Slovakia, but also to citizens with permanent residence in Slovakia, who will not be in the country for the elections.
