Teachers earn much less than other employees with degrees

Teacher's salaries in Slovakia are significantly below the average incomes of other people with higher education, according to data released by the website platy.sk. The average gross monthly salary of a secondary-school employee is approximately €804 per month, while employees elsewhere with a university education earn €1,102. "Every qualified teacher at primary or secondary school needs to have a university education. As we can see, the salaries of these qualified employees are significantly below the average earned by other workers with a comparable education," said platy.sk product manager Miroslav Dravecký, adding that this gap is most pronounced in the Bratislava region. "It should come as no surprise, therefore, that it's in the country's capital where discontent among teachers is heard most."
