Prosecutor-General Jaromír Čižnár has ordered the Trenčín Regional Prosecutor to examine a police file on a murder which occurred on Saturday November 14 in the western Slovak town of Stará Turá. "Upon examination, the Regional Prosecutor's Office found a serious wrongdoing on the part of the policeman on duty. The Prosecutor-General discussed the results of the inspection with Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák, who fully accepted the opinion of the prosecution", said Prosecutor-General's Office spokesperson Andrea Predajňová. On Saturday, a 45 year old man named Tibor, shot dead his 42 year old wife Miroslava before turning the gun on himself. According to the news website cas.sk, the motive of the murder was likely jealousy. The website reported that only hours before the murder, Miroslava went to the police and filed a criminal complaint against her husband, as she discovered that he owned a gun and feared for her life. However, allegedly the policeman on duty refused to treat the matter as anything but a case of an infringement of civil coexistence. According to the Pravda daily, one of Miroslava's friends stated that the police also refused to take action until Monday. When Miroslava told them that she could well be dead by then, a police officer simply laughed and said that this probably wouldn't be the case. Trenčín Region Police spokesperson Elena Antalová has confirmed that Miroslava did go to the police on Saturday but refused to comment further because an investigation is under way.
