The worst case scenario of the vast security threats connected to the migration crisis is becoming a reality, said Prime Minister Robert Fico in an extraordinary Markiza TV channel debate on Sunday, organised in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Paris. Fico said that two out of eight terrorists that perpetrated the attacks in Paris were immigrants and came to Europe by way of the Balkan route. "It's a confirmation of the huge security threats connected to migration," said Fico. As of November 14, Slovakia has launched more effective monitoring of Muslims, immigration camps as well as right-wing extremism. Fico said that the Cabinet is focused on serious preventive measures. "We respect that there's a migration crisis, but Slovak citizens and their security is of a higher priority than the rights of migrants," asserted Fico.
The Islamic Foundation in Slovakia condemns the strong words of PM Robert Fico, as being presented in the television debates following the terrorist attack in Paris. Due to security measures, Fico announced that the state will monitor every Muslim residing in Slovakia. The Islamic Foundation finds such claims shocking, moreover breaking down the image of Slovakia as a democratic and free country. According to the Foundation, Fico has hinted to a situation, that some of the citizens of his own country represent a threat. "Not due to a court's decision or on the basis of police allegations, but only because of another religion," reads the statement published on islamonline.sk.
