Christmas tree installed in the Slovak capital

This Christmas the city centre in Bratislava, the Slovak capital, will be decorated by a 35-year-old Norway spruce. The tree was installed onto the city's Main Square by workers of the Municipal Forest Department on Monday. The 16 metre tall spruce was given to the city by one family residing in Rača, a borough of Bratislava. It is always a difficult task for the city to find the ideal Christmas tree to decorate the city centre during the holidays, with the search for such a tree usually beginning in May, as the Christmas tree must meet several criteria. The most important thing is its symmetry and aesthetic appearance. The tree trunk should be within easy reach of lumberjacks, with the tree's smooth transport to the city centre also needing to be secured.
