It is still unclear as to where exactly the route for the R1 expressway to link Banská Bystrica and Ružomberok (Žilina region) will run, according to the Transport, Construction and Regional Development Ministry. Although a feasibility study which considered several options has already been made, the chosen route will only be known once its impact on the environment has been assessed. It is to be launched shortly. Once that is completed, the link to D1 highway at Ružomberok will be determined. "The decision as to where to find the funding and on which section it will be spent will be up to one of the future governments", according to the ministry.
