The new agreement between EU and Kosovo doesn’t change the stance of Slovakia

Even after the signing of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement between the European Union and Kosovo, Slovakia's position on the non-recognition of Kosovo's independence remains the same. "In no case does it mean a shift in this position," Foreign Ministry spokesman Peter Stano confirmed to TASR on Friday. Moreover, Stano has pointed out that also the remaining four EU countries that do not recognize an independent Kosovo, didn't block its new agreement with the EU. "Together we have made it clear that issues concerning the European perspective of the region and the international legal personality of Kosovo are unrelated," he said. On October 27th, the EU and Kosovo have signed an agreement to deepen ties that is seen as a first step towards EU membership.
